The purpose of this course is to examine examples of blog that I think are just great. By examining them clsly you will be able to learn the secrets of great blogs that you can employ in your own blog.
This method should also become a habit of yours. As ou surf the web looking for answers to your own searches stop t times and ask yourself these questions.
Why did I click o that search result? What was it about hat one that got me in?
Was the site any good? Did I stay or just click away? Why did I stay, why did I bounce away?

Have look at this site and ask yourself why I have included it in my great blogs list.
The first thing I thought when I got to this site was – oh its a bit plain, the design is a bit average, it all just looks a bit flat.
And yet when making a simple knitting-related search, I searched “knitting pearl stitch” it was the top-rated result. ote I even got the spelling of purl wrong – I’m not a knitter.
I watched the video, read the article and was so intrigued I went to the landing page. And the longer I stayed the more I loved this site and the more it grew on me.
The whole site just reeks of sincerity. It’s not an over the top “glossy” because that would not suit the target audience. Knitting, so I’m lead to believe, is a wholesome homely activity needing patience concentration and a desire to create something. These qualities are valued in society and this site is just so authentic you just believe in its creator immediately. You almost want her to succeed.
What else is great about this site? Why did it win a search that produced 5,200,000 search results;
Great content!
Surprise, surprise the content is great. The article talks about the steps required to achieve the end goal, the video is slick and precise, and the article itself is not overburdened with so much advertising that it is still a pleasure to read.
Then I went to the home page. And again everything was just on brief. Its an authentic blog site with all the content you could need, neatly organised, with a landing page that looks like the front page of a leading magazine.
There is only one ad on the front page – the banner ad – which gets your attention but stays out of the way and allows the site to sing its authenticity and sincerity, qualities that can’t be faked and clearly the work of a very likable person.
What can you learn from this site?
- It pays to be genuinely passionate about your topic because this is hard to fake.
- You must just keep going – the amount of content on this site and its quality is awesome and no doubt took a good deal of time to get together
- The look and feel of your site must match your target audiences image profile.
- You must learn the skills that will enable you to provide the appropriate content for your category.
