Backlink – why so improtant. The corallary – citation analysis. that works because it has a self governing principle led by the people involved in the process. They ar escientists.

Set up a system like that and inevitably the spivs will get to work fingering out how to game the system.

THE BROAD STRATEGIC GOAL

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic

* Check out your competitors! Steal the backlinks from your competitors. If you can find out who is linking to competitor sites, you basically create a database of prospects for yourself. You can get this information by using backlink checker tools.

Focus on building backlinks for the purpose of generating page views or sales etc. Focus on those sites most valuable to you. This will ensure that your backlinks are relevant (a significant Google SEO requirement) and of high quality.

Guest Posting

This involves being accepted by other more significant publications in your niche to publish a post you have written on their site and giving you the by-line and URL link. Thi gives you access to their following with the potential to drive their readers to your site.

Obviously to be accepted your post will need to be high quality.

The benefits to you can be significant.

  • Increased awareness for you and your site
  • Helps to grow your authority by being linked to the high-quality publication
  • Is seen and counted by Google so improves your ranking
  • This can lead to more high-quality collaborations
  • It’s sensible to collaborate with though leaders

The cons

  • The ability to accept your post will likely come with a requirement to include a “nofollow” attribute or tag. Once upon a time this would  disavow the link. Your Google ranking would not improve.
This has changed and Google now gives them a marginal ranking value treating them as a mild indicator of authority.
  • If they are poorly placed on low authority, thin pages of marginal relevance to the niche they can count them as a negative.

Why would your potential opposition do this.

Its cheaper for them to get others to write quality content for them. Also they would expect a link to their site increasing the presence and traffic to their site. Its a bit of a you scratch my back and ill scratch yours.

If you can get it go for it – but once you gain traction and start getting significant traffic of your own I would not be returning the favor. Its a competitive world. Why give them access to your hard owon traffic.

Also if you are trying your hardest to create better content than theirs why would you give it away.

Should you do it

It will really depend on the publication. Let’s say you have written an opinion piece and the New York Times wants to run it. Should you do it. Absolutely! The chances of your blog ever reaching the heights of this venerated publication are minimal. (Nil). The exposure you get in return is significant. The authority it imbues and the PR value is significant.

Imagine telling your social media following – “In the article, I wrote for the New York Times last week..,”. That has real punch.

But if it’s for another blogger who is marginally bigger than you and whose work you don’t really like, and yours is so much better, then the question is more vexed.

Social Media

White Papers

White papers or scholarly essays that contain lots of primary material including statistics and observations are eminently shareable and often referenced.

In academia, they are the journal articles that detail the experiments of scientists and opinions of the thought leaders on the subject. If they detail important findings they are often referenced and are the basis of citation analysis, the forerunner of backlinking.

Material that contains primary statistics is often referenced especially by well-researched posts. When talking about the internet sites like Statista are often referenced, or in investing got to Investopedia

White papers are dense, often data-driven deep investigations of a particular niche and are often shared and quoted from. Creating this type of material can win many worthy backlinks in a way that they are meant to be earned.

Collaboration With Significant Others

Working with others in your niche can be a win win for all those that contribute, but especially for the newer participants. Obviously a collaboration where the optunity for personal gain is evident there normally needs to be a fairly equal contribution from each member. This cannot always be the case for someone juts starting out.

But you can always rely on peoples ego to help . Try by asking to feature a prominent member of your niche community on the front page of your upcoming post release, interview them either on video or as a technique for a written post, or for a podcast.

The key is to maximise the gain from any collaboration by spreading the word widely. Press releases across your social media network; like “Read my interview wth star..,”, or watch me interview xyz, etc.

These announcements can drive pageviews to your site. Even from other niche players looking to quote from your interview providing the backlinks you seek.

Researching Others Backlink Profiles

This should be a part of your opposition research tasks. Not so much that you want to replicate

but also because by analyzing the web of sites the leaders in your niche consider important places to have their backlinks helps you quickly build a competitive picture of your niche market.

You can also use this web to understand were you need to fish for backlinks making it simpler to determine the important sites to be on and making your efforts gaining backlinks more efficient.

make a list of the sites that the niche leaders are on and make it a weekly or monthly task to target one or two of thee and get a backlink there also.

Include in Comments

Comments can be left in many places on the internet especially on social media which are designed to be discursive. Leaving links to posts in comments is one obvious way to spread your links.

The problem is Google does not particularly like this form of backlink. The reason is fairly obvious. Google is using backlinks as a way of determining how much other people value your work. Self promoting yourself by leaving backlinks in comments all over the web is obviously against this central idea.

Google may even lower your rankings because of this techniques reasoning that it is a bit spammy, which is a bit rich really. The internet is a commercial area and you should be available to promote yourself without the fear of big brother Google penalising you.

But proceed on this route with caution. People across the internet don’t particularly like self-promotion or being sold to. be sure to add real value to a discussion before including a link. Or you could include the address without creating a link. It won’t count as a link but will still brand your contribution and maybe get followed.

THE BEST METHOD

Spend the time and effort to write great content.

Write content that is sharable, memorable, the ultimate contribution to a particular area. include primary research and statistics that add value to the understanding of a particular area.

Espouse a unique opinion supported by facts, build on previous work to advance the discussion, add significant value to peoples lives by building tools and resources that make peoples understanding of a niche area that much deeper.

This is what Google wants you to do and why they value genuine backlinks. Backlins that have been made because a significant other thogt the material was really valuable.

You will get much further creating great content than you will trying to game the system, a game that Google is constantly trying to win.

Its also far more satisfying and time efficient.
